Did you know Tacoma has one of the lowest tree canopy coverage rates in Western Washington? Only about 20% of the city is covered by trees — and that’s nowhere near where it should be.
Even more concerning, most of that tree cover is concentrated in parks and wealthier neighborhoods. Some areas of Tacoma have as little as 3% tree cover, while others enjoy up to 64%. It’s a big gap — and it means not everyone gets to enjoy the benefits trees bring: cleaner air, more shade, cooler streets, and a healthier environment.

Their goal is to educate, empower, and support the community in bringing more green to Tacoma neighborhoods.
The Tacoma Foundation provides free trees to residents and organizes planting events where those trees can make the biggest impact. They also host educational walks and talks to help people understand the importance of their mission — and how they can help.
We share the foundation’s vision of a Tacoma where every neighborhood has more trees, stronger communities, and neighbors helping neighbors to build a greener, healthier city for everyone.
Take Root 2025 Fundraising Event
The Tacoma Tree Foundation recently hosted its Take Root 2025 fundraising event on May 31 — and of course, we had to be there. Our very own Digital Operations Manager, Jordan Pope, attended to represent our team and show our support.
More than 100 people from across Greater Tacoma came together — sharing stories, enjoying great food, local brews, and live music — all to help raise $70,000 for local urban greening efforts.
We’re excited to continue supporting this work — both financially and by lending some Eco Movers muscle at community planting events later this year.
