Environmental Impact

For the first several years after we were founded in 2009, we started a recycling program, stressed using environmentally friendly packing materials, and dramatically cut down on cardboard and plastic waste common in the moving industry. We bought several thousand reusable moving boxes, our Eco Boxes, and saved tens of thousands of cardboard boxes by switching to these multi-use containers where possible.

Tacoma Tree Foundation

Eco Movers is proud to announce our partnership with Tacoma Tree Foundation, a nonprofit focused on educating, empowering, and supporting community greening efforts in the Greater Tacoma area and the Puget Sound watershed.

Our partnership with TTF contributes to growing Tacoma’s urban forest in neighborhoods where tree canopy is low and the need is greatest. Tacoma Tree Foundation works with community members, schools, and local governments to distribute free trees, organize planting and tree-care events, and provide education on urban greening and environmental equity.

Eco Movers was founded with the goal of reducing wasteful practices that plague the moving industry. We have now gone one step further by directly making an impact on the environment in our community. Our collaboration with TTF will not only establish healthy urban forests but will make a measurable impact on local communities, especially in underserved neighborhoods. The trees planted will help capture pollutants, reduce urban heat, improve air quality, and support local ecosystem health.

When you book with Eco Movers, you are making a major contribution to the greening of your community and the long-term environmental health of the Greater Tacoma area.

Tilth Alliance

Eco Movers is proud to support Tilth Alliance, a Washington nonprofit that works with farmers, gardeners, and community members to build a sustainable, healthy, and equitable food future.

Tilth Alliance offers gardening classes, youth farm & garden programs, food preservation, environmental stewardship, and grants for sustainable agriculture.

By choosing Eco Movers you help strengthen local food systems, support equitable access to fresh produce, and protect soil and water health in our region.

Trees for Neighborhoods

Every year since 2009, Seattle’s Trees for Neighborhoods program has provided trees for Seattle residents to plant in their yards and along streets — more than 9,300 of them! Residents can apply for free trees, and winners of this popular lottery receive a tree, a watering bag, mulch, training on proper planting, and more.

Applications open each summer, and trees are available in the fall. That’s where we come in: Eco Movers is partnering with the city of Seattle to deliver trees to applicants who need help getting their trees home.

Waste-Saving Moving Practices

Packing: Most moving companies use tape to securely wrap the furniture in moving blankets. At Eco Movers, wherever possible, we use large rubber bands. This serves two functions: We don’t waste rolls of tape when items need only be padded for a few hours, and it also helps lengthen the life of our moving blankets.

Boxes: We encourage our customers to place a free ad on Craigslist or Facebook Marketplace for Free Moving Boxes. These are typically gone in just a few days. Having these used several times reduces waste. Alternatively, you can rent our reusable Eco Boxes for your next move.

Our partners
