How to Pack Glasses for Moving

Packing glasses is one of those moving tasks that sounds simple until you actually start. They’re small, fragile, and usually packed away in bulk, which makes breakage more likely if you rush it.

If moving day is coming up and you’re wondering how to pack glasses for moving without losing half of them along the way, this will walk you through it step by step.

What You’ll Need to Pack Your Glasses

  • A dish pack or sturdy moving box (dish boxes are best)
  • Cardboard dividers or cell kits
  • Packing paper
  • Bubble wrap or foam sheets for extra protection
  • Packing tape
  • A marker for labeling
Packing Glasses for Moving

Step-by-Step: How to Pack Glasses

1. Start with Clean, Dry Glasses

Make sure the glasses are empty, clean, and completely dry. Even a little moisture can make the paper soggy and cause things to slip.

2. Create a Padded Base

For the base of the box, crumple up some packing paper or put foam down there. That cushions any bumps on the road during the move.

3. Wrap Each Glass Individually

Place the glass on packing paper, roll it gently, and tuck paper inside the glass to support the rim. For delicate or sentimental pieces, add a layer of bubble wrap or foam wrap around the outside.

4. Use Dish Boxes with Dividers

If you have a dish box with dividers, use it. The dividers keep each glass separate so they’re not clinking together during the move. Always place glasses upright, since the rims are the easiest part to chip.

If you don’t have dividers, make sure glasses don’t touch each other and use extra paper between them. It might not be perfect but it works okay.

5. Fill Any Empty Space

Fill up any empty spots with more crumpled paper or foam. You don’t want them shifting when the box gets picked up. Then before you close it, add another layer on top for protection.

7. Seal and Label Clearly

Tape the box securely and label it “Glasses – Fragile” That way movers know they should handle it with care and it makes unpacking easier later.

Remember that You Don’t Have to Pack These Yourself!

If packing fragile things like glasses feels like one thing too many, it’s okay to hand that part off. Movers pack delicate kitchen items every day and know how to do it safely.
