Packing your TV can feel a little stressful. It’s big, fragile, and not exactly something you want to wing on moving day. But with a little planning, you can make sure your screen shows up at your new place without a single scratch.
Here’s how to pack it up properly and avoid any moving day headaches.

What You’ll Need to Pack Your TV
Before you start wrapping and boxing anything, it helps to have everything you need in one spot. For packing a TV, you’ll want:
- A TV box (the original is ideal, but not a must)
- Packing paper or soft blankets
- Bubble wrap
- Packing tape
- Foam corner protectors (if you’ve got them)
- A permanent marker for labeling
If you don’t have the original box, a custom box made from broken-down cardboard boxes can work just fine. Just make sure the screen’s well cushioned and everything stays in place once it’s packed.
How to Pack a TV for Moving
Let’s walk through it step by step. The goal here is to keep your screen safe and secure, whether it’s riding across town or across the country.
1. Unplug Everything and Clean the Screen
Wipe off any dust or fingerprints, you don’t want to trap grime under wraps. Coil up the cords and pack them separately (a labeled zip-top bag works great).
2. Protect the Screen
Lay down a soft blanket or packing paper over the screen and never tape anything directly to it. If you have corner protectors, pop those on now. Then wrap the entire TV in bubble wrap for extra padding.
3. .Fit It into Your Box
If you’ve got the original box, this part’s easy. If not, line a sturdy, flat box with more padding and gently place the TV inside, upright. TVs should always be packed and moved standing up, never flat.
4. Fill in the Gaps
Use packing paper, foam, or even towels to fill any empty space around the TV in the box. You want it snug, so it doesn’t slide around.
5. Tape and Label
Seal the box well and write “TV – Fragile” on at least two sides. This helps anyone handling the box know to treat it with care. Make sure that the side of the box where the screen is located is clearly labeled as such.
Bonus tip: Take a quick photo of the back of your TV before disconnecting cables. It’ll make setting it up again way easier if you need it.
