Is there a perfect time to move? We don’t always get to pick our moving date because sometimes life just happens. But if you have the choice to wait, picking the right time can make your move much easier. Here in the PNW, when you move is just as important as where you move. Let’s look at how the different seasons can work for you.

Why Does Timing Matter When Planning a Move?
Moving prices change all year round. We know this as peak and off seasons, and the difference can really affect your wallet. Peak season happens during the summer. Since everyone is trying to move at once, rates go up and companies book up fast. During the off-season in the winter, things slow down and prices drop.
This means the exact same move will cost you more or less depending on your date. If you are flexible and can wait for the right window, you can land a better rate and avoid the worst of the PNW weather.
Best Time of the Year to Move
If You Are on a Tight Budget
If saving money is the goal, your best bet is moving during the off-season. In the PNW, that’s between November and February. Since most people don’t want to deal with the cold or the rain, prices tend to drop along with the demand.
Just keep in mind that you’ll be dealing with the PNW winter. You’ll need to be ready for some rain and potentially slick roads.
If You Want the Best Weather
If your priority is a move without the rain or taking advantage of the summer break before the school year starts, July, August, and early September are your best options.

Just keep in mind that this is peak season. Because the weather is great and school is out, movers are in high demand and rates go up. You’ll want to book your team at least a month in advance to make sure you get the date you want.
How to Get the Best of Both?
If you want a good price without moving in a downpour, look for what we call the shoulder seasons. In the PNW, this is usually late April through May or late September through October.
These months are a great choice because you can often find a break in the rain before the high summer prices start. It’s a sweet spot where the weather is usually okay, and moving companies still have open dates on their calendars.
