4 Reasons In-Home Estimates Are a Must

With endless things to check off your to-do list, scheduling an in-home estimate may seem like one thing that can go on the back burner. We understand how time-consuming moving is, but we have to say: this is one of the steps you don’t want to skip. At Eco Movers we’re dedicated to showing up for you in any way we can, so here’s our rundown of the importance of in-home estimates before you move:

Gives You a Visual

First and foremost, with an in-home moving estimate, it helps you get a sense of just how much ‘stuff’ you’ll be bringing from one house to another. This goes a long way towards helping you reduce the items by having a clear-cut vision of what should go and what must stay. From there you can organize into piles such as trash, donate or take- you’ll be surprised how much you’re willing to let go of once you gain a bit of perspective.

Phone or Email Estimates Aren’t Accurate

Of course, it may seem more comfortable to simply make a phone call- or better yet, shoot a quick e-mail- but these are never as accurate as physically seeing the items. Why is this important? Glad you asked: when your estimate of items or sizes is wrong, so is your estimate of the cost. The last thing you want is to get hit with a larger bill than originally expected because the load was heavier, there were more items than anticipated or simply your sizes were off.

Discuss Fragile Items

Our movers are professionals and know a thing or two about getting the job done right. During your in-home estimate, you can discuss with the movers any large or fragile items that may require additional care. This will give them advanced notice if there are delicate items that could slow down the process to ensure everything arrives exactly as it is left.

Allows You to Ask Questions

Finally, an in-home estimate gives you one-on-one face time to ask any questions you have for the moving company you are looking to hire- and vice versa. Once this is done, you should have a firm understanding of how that moving company operates and if they’re someone you want to sign on the dotted line. Go over any remaining details, such as parking spaces, stairs, elevators, etc. that may make a move easier or more difficult for the company you are hiring.
